Painful Experience Ever Since Bonding..
Last week I went for my follow up. The nurse is trying to insert a thicker wire to my lower half while I'm couldn't control myself because of the pain. I struggled and the nurse also struggled. What a bad experience was the nurse is not competent enough to deal with inserting difficult wire. Because of the pain, it had stimulated jerking movement at my right jugular vein. I don't really know why this happen but I just can't control it. It is an involuntary movements. After she failed for few attempts and poking my mucosa again and again, I obviously lost my temper. She also shows her face unhappy to me (Fussy, I guess it called).
Then came the Orthodontist.. He took over the procedure and found that it was not possible to insert. He trimmed the both ends of the wire and at last the procedure is done! During the insertion period he did pressed hard against my teeth. I did felt very painful. As it the teeth is going to drop off! It may due to the loose roots also. After the procedure, I told the doctor that, "Doc, this is the most painful experience ever since I'm on Dental Brace!".

It's been a while now...
Can't believe it that I'm on dental braces for almost 3 months now. To summarize, initially I was so annoying by the metals in my mouth. They scratches and cuts my mucosa badly. But, don't worry my friends, it only cause most of the discomfort about 2-3 weeks at the beginning.
Now, I had went to my second time appointment to adjust the brace. It is not as bad as first time. Maybe it is because of I expected what will happen, I do prepare for it. This time, I can't chew about a week plus only. Compared with the beginning, it was about 2-3 weeks.
I'm surprise that the effect of dental braces show much earlier as I thought. One of the crooked tooth has been aligned!
Recently, I found there is a different on my face. I notice that my face structure is imbalance now (compare left and right side of my face). Maybe it is because of the braces are pulling the teeth to realign. Eventually, my face structure also changed.

The day when I can bite a little better... hehe
Consider advanced de! Koay Teow Th'ng!!!
Steam Tauhu with some Tiny Prawns... Can't chew actually, just swallow nia~
Emm! Enjoying yogurt!
Porridge with minced meat!
Toothbrushes of Choice During Dental Bracing!
It doesn't matter when it comes to brand but the texture~ I chose the smaller toothbrush as I'd extracted 6 tooth! Big toothbrush just don't fit my mouth anymore. Plus, the feathery-like ends helps to remove foreign bodies better!!!
This was provided by the dental clinic. Of course they asked to pay extra... So expensive. It cost me RM20.50. I rather buy at drugstores! However, I don't want people say I'm so fussy. I just paid and keep my mouth shut.

8th March 2013
Today I had my third extraction~ This time were both left 4th premolars.. I thought that I'm so clever this time to hydrate my lips well so that it won't chap like previous experience but ended up the same... Maybe it is due to my anxiety level. When a person in panic/ anxious stage, we breathe with mouth rather than nose. That dry air exhaled may cause my lips chapped!
This time, my lower 4th premolar was really stubborn to take off! (the orthodontist said~) She took quiet sometimes to get it removed. Even though she had given local anesthesia, I still had the sensation of pain before getting off. She further gave me local anesthesia to me.. This round, I experiencing some signs of infection to my lower extracted wound site. Looks like a little slough, a little pain and tender but not major..
Tip: After I had went through second time extraction, this round I learnt how to effectively stop the bleeding in shorter time. Previously, I did changed the gauzes few times.. it took about 2 hours to stop bleeding. My third time, I didn't changed the gauze. Once it was fully soaked, What I did was using tissues to press on the gauze that I bite on so that the blood will transfer to the tissues. The reason is when I remove the gauze which I bite on, partially be blood clots been removed. The wound needs blood to be clotted in order to stop bleeding! If I keep on changing the gauze, the bleeding will never stop as I the blood clots have been removed together with the gauzes!
Follow up fees: RM120

4th March 2013
Today I had my both right 4th premolars extracted! This time, the fear feeling reduced to almost 99%! I found that front teeth are more difficult to remove and once the local anesthesia went off, I experienced a little more pain. This time, no signs of infection at all. I can start biting on 4th day after extraction.
Initially, I thought that one of my tooth has signs of decay. Picture above shows the teeth I'd removed. When I checked on my 5th upper premolar, I also noticed that it also looks the same as above. I was so worry that I may need to repair it before the bonding day. So, I went to consult with a dentist and she said it is not decay, it is a discoloration due to both teeth rubbed against each other. Fuh~ I'm so much relief then..
But one negative experience I had this time was after the local anesthesia, my lips swollen (expected) causing chapped lips! I learnt a lesson then, next time I must make sure to really moisture my lips before go for my third extraction..
Do you see any difference? My right facial was more puffy compared with my left side...This picture taken just after local anesthesia.. The orthodontist asked to wait for 10 minutes before extraction.

22nd January 2013
I totally good to eat hard stuffs today. Seems like the wound totally healed. No more inflamed gum. Extracted gum sites also totally healed.
18th January 2013
Today I found that there is a small pus at my gum. Probably due to injection needle punctured site when the dentist giving me local anesthesia. There is some signs of inflammation. When eating, there are some pain with discomfort
16th January 2013
Today I was terrified. Though I'm not ready to go for extraction of my wisdom teeth but my heart giving me courage to do so. My heart is pumping so fast till I feel like fainting!
I drove alone to dental clinic nearby. Immediately, I'd called for the procedure. I heard from my friend that it is impossible to get both wisdom teeth to be extracted in one go but my dentist allowed to. She said my both wisdom teeth had decayed due to difficult in brushing it. And she said it actually won't caused too much pain if to removed both in one go.So then I agreed.
My heart continued beating fast! Till she injected local anaesthesia to my gum it actually doesn't hurt much as I thought it could be.It was actually fear more than pain... When the local starts to take place, partially my nostril gets numbed followed by my throat. Initially, I feel nauseated due to lost of sensation and I can't swallow. For a little while, the effect gone. After 10 minutes, the dentist started to extract my teeth. It happen so fast till I didn't even realize that both had been extracted.
Afterall, I was then asked to bite on the gauzes to stop bleeding. The dentist did gave me Paracetamol for pain relief.and I had taken 2 tablets before the local anaesthesia wind off. I bite on the gauzes about 2 hours and after that the bleeding subsequently stopped. Numbness eventually gone about 6 hours and yet I don't feel much pain. I would say more to discomfort rather than pain.
The extraction cost me RM160

6th January 2013
Today is my first day appointment to see Orthodontist. I had my braces mold done as well as X- Ray. I spent RM400 in first dental consultation and RM10 for registration. Before I went to Dental Clinic, I actually didn't feel the fear. After I'd consulted by Orthodontist, my heart feels so uneasy.
Yes, I'm expecting 4 tooth to be taken out. But now end up with 6 tooth! Fuh~ Very tough... 4 in front and 2 of my upper wisdom tooth. The consultant says I might need to remove another 2 below wisdom tooth if "they" disturb the process of putting the braces. So, I need mental preparation to remove total of 8 tooth!!! FUH~ And it is not easy, the below 2 wisdom tooth may need to do a small incision and break it then remove it by pieces... The thing is I can't have my extraction one shot. Then I need to bear with the pain for at least 3 times!
"You are reading" may think that since I have so much fear, why I still want to go for braces, right? Well, there are few reasons. First, I have distorted tongue due to my disorganized tooth. My tongue being cut by my tooth which cause my pain on and off. It's been many many years.. And I thought I can live with this. But I actually cheating myself. Well, I do feel something just not right.
My tongue is distorted! (~_~)
In order to proceed with my orthodontic procedure, first I need to remove my both upper wisdom tooth. I'm actually in fear... I find that actually I'm not prepared for all these.. But when I look to myself, I tell myself that I need and MUST do something! And this is one of my new year resolution! I have to do it no matter what so that I will never regret in future. And for your information I'm no more young. This year I'm entering 31 years old. I think I'm mature enough to bear these facts which upcoming to change my whole life.
I'm obviously going forward to it and decided to make use this blog as my diary to record down My Experience In Dental Braces. At the same time, those people out there who have the same problems as me get more real life experiences and courage to walk through the journey of wearing dental braces..
Thank you for reading.. Good Luck (to myself)
